I’m doing something quite different in today’s episode…
Rather than share a strategy, a how-to, case study, or campaign insights or stats…
I want to talk about something that’s holding so many of us back in our businesses.
And that’s perfectionism.
And the reason I decided to share it with you is this is something that I have struggled with.
And the more I’ve shared it, the more people I hear from saying that they too struggle with it.
And they ask me to continue talking about it…
There’s a great quote by Brene Brown about perfectionism that says:
“Perfectionism is not the same thing as striving to be our best. Perfectionism is not about healthy achievement and growth; it\’s a shield.”
I share this because I’ve realized that perfectionism is the cause of one of the biggest frustrations in my business — speed of execution.
It’s something I’ve struggled with over the last few years with the podcast, articles, creating videos, writing emails, etc…
You see, I have so many ideas and things I want to do, but they get bogged down by my wanting them to be “perfect” before they see the light of day.
Some never even DO see the light of day.
It’s a “shield”, as Brene says, that I use to keep my work from being judged.
Things just got deep up in here, I know.
But maybe you can relate?
Well, I’ve decided enough is enough.
Because to follow through on the vision I have for my business, being stuck in perfection-land has no place any longer…
So when it comes to the podcast, articles, creating videos, and writing emails, I’ve given myself permission “Good Enough” is now enough.
It’s about getting out of my head, executing and letting YOU decide whether you find value in what I’m creating.
After all, it’s not about whether I think something’s awesome, it’s about whether you think it’s helpful.
This shift in mindset has been awesome.
It’s been freeing…
I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders…
Game on…
Now, I want you to look at your own business…
Where might perfectionism be holding you back?
Whether it’s your Facebook ads (you’re just testing, anyway, right?!)…
Your landing pages…
Whether it’s your videos…
Your podcast episodes…
Your articles…
Your social media…
I challenge you to join me in leaving perfection-land and allowing “Good Enough” to be enough and just get your stuff out there.
Be ok with things maybe not looking the EXACT way you might have in your mind.
Just embracing this a little bit will bring you more happiness in your business.
As I said, I’m on this journey with you of leaving perfectionism behind.
So I’d love to hear from you…
Message me over on Facebook Messenger (rickmulready.com/messenger) and let me know if and how perfectionism has been holding you back.

Transcription of Today’s Episode
[00:00:06] This is the show where I bring you the best tips, tactics and strategies for using paid traffic to grow your business on autopilot. You’ll also hear what’s working and not working right now from the top minds in online marketing so that you can get more leads and sales every day without having to empty your wallet in the process. Alright, let’s jump into it.
[00:00:28] There’s an awesome quote by Brene Brown about perfectionism and it says perfectionism is not the same thing as striving to be our best. Perfectionism is not about healthy achievement and growth. It’s a shield. What’s up everyone. Welcome back to the art of traffic podcast. Rick Mulready here. Thank you so much for coming to hang out. Really appreciate it. Hope all is going well. Whatever you’re up to today this is episode number one hundred and sixty six and as you might have heard from that quote that it is read. Going to do something a little bit different on the podcast this week rather than share a how to or a case study or campaign insights or stats or whatever. I want to talk to you about something that’s holding so many of us back in our businesses and that something is perfectionism and the reason I decided to share it with you this week while a couple of different reason number one here in the States it’s Thanksgiving week so things kind of slow down a little bit. And the second reason I wanted to share with you is this is something that I have been struggling with for a long time and I started to share more about it with people I shared this with my email list a few months ago a bit on social media and man the reaction has been amazing. And the more people that I hear from that when I share it they respond back to me and they say yeah and I’m struggling with this too.
[00:01:43] And they asked me to continue to talk about it so I figured that I might try talking about this here on the podcast just for a few minutes here is going to be a short episode. And as I mentioned I share this because I’ve realized that perfectionism is the cause of one of the biggest frustrations in my own business which is the speed of execution. It’s really something that I’ve struggled with over the last few years especially here with the podcast with creating video games definitely with creating video doing articles writing emails. You see I have so many ideas in things that I want to do but they get bogged down by my wanting them to be quote unquote perfect before they see the light of day. You know I get a lot of comments about how polished it might. This podcast sounds to people you know you might be surprised that we actually do very little editing here on the show as far as like Ohmes in Oz and mess ups and start overs and stuff like that. We do very little bit of that now when I record the intro scene outros I might take you know five six seven times to do it where I’m where I am happy with it and I could probably be you know easier on myself with that. But you know because of this I have so many ideas and so many things I want to do in the business I need to get past this I need to be okay with things not being perfect and when I’m when I get bogged down by this you know some of these ideas and things that I want to do. Never even see the light of day.
[00:03:14] And as Brenda Brown just said in that quote I’ve realized that this is a shield that I use to keep my work from being judged. And yes I get it. Things just got deep up in here right. Well you know I’m afraid to put things out there sometimes because they’re not as perfect quote unquote as I think they should be. In my mind. And so I feel like if I put this thing out there and it’s not that perfect thing in my mind I feel like I’m going to be judged by it people are going to you know comment about it and not like it and all this other stuff maybe you can relate to this. Well I’ve decided that enough is enough because to follow through on the vision that I have for my business here being stuck in perfection land as I’m calling it has no place any longer. So when it comes to the podcast here when it comes to creating video and writing articles and writing emails I’ve finally given myself permission that good enough is now enough. There’s this there’s lots of different quotes out there besides Bernay Browns that says something like you know perfection is the enemy of growth and all this other stuff I find like that’s finally hit home for me. And so if you’re if you’re listening to this and you’re nodding your head whether you’re in the car on the treadmill or out walking the dog or whatever and you’re like yeah man this is like this is I totally hear what Rick saying here. You know I’ve been so glad that I was you know this was this is a perfect episode.
[00:04:37] Perfect example of an episode that I wasn’t really sure that I’d put out there because you know again this is not something we talk about here in the show this isn’t the type of format that we normally do on the show here. You know it’s more case studies and numbers and campaign strategy and all this other stuff. But I feel like this is something that I’ve gotten so much feedback on from people when I share what I’m going through what I’ve gone through in my own business that you know I want to talk more about it and try to help more the guys who are you know who are fighting this in your own head in there and in your own business. And really this stuff is about getting out of my head and you getting out of your head and executing and letting you or letting your audience let letting you for me and letting your audience for you decide whether you or find value in what you’re creating right after all this is not about whether I think something is awesome it’s about whether you think it’s helpful and adds value to you. And this shift in mindset that I’ve sort of that sort of happened for me over the past several months here has been awesome it’s been freeing and I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders so far as I’m concerned. Game on for 2018 and now I want to challenge you. I want you to look at your own business. Where might perfectionism be holding you back. Maybe it’s your Facebook ads. Maybe it’s her landing pages or your videos that you’re creating.
[00:06:04] Have to remember by the way when it comes to our Facebook ads it’s all testing right. Always always be testing. You’re always just testing with your Facebook ads anyway. So it’s like most of that most of the time right when What’s with our Facebook ads. It’s the unrefined stuff. It’s the unpolished stuff that performs the best. Right. So that should not be an excuse. Perfectionism should not be an excuse as far as you know for why you’re not getting your Facebook ads out there. Again it’s always you’re always testing stuff anyway. Maybe you have a podcast and you’re looking for the perfect podcast format or the perfect podcast episodes. Maybe it’s your articles that you’re writing on your Web site or your you know e-mails that you’re writing out to your list or your social media whatever it might be. I want to challenge you to join me in leaving perfection land in allowing good enough to be enough and just get your stuff out there so that you can be helping more people and growing your business. Be ok with things. Maybe not looking the exact way that you might have in your mind and just embracing this a little bit. I don’t want to guarantee anything but I can say I can speak for what it has done for me. It will bring you a lot more happiness in your business when you let go of this perfectionism.
[00:07:20] As I said I’m on this journey with you of leaving perfectionism behind and I want to again I want to challenge you and I also want to hear from you and I’d love for you to message me over on Facebook Messenger which you can do at Rick Mulready dot com forward slash messenger and let me know if and how perfectionism has been holding you back. And you know I love hearing the all the feedback when I had emailed my list about this a couple of months ago. I actually asked people the same to do the same thing message me on Facebook and man my messenger lit up with the feedback and the comments from everybody saying like yes thank you so much for talking about this. This is something that I’ve been struggling with for so long and it was just you know it was really a really cool way to connect with all of you. And also just sort of work together if you will to move forward and to put this sort of thing behind us. So that’s what I got for you today my friends. Thank you so much. Listen to this very different kind of episode. And for all the guys in the United States have an awesome Thanksgiving next week. I’m going to be back with more of the kind of episode that you’d expect here on the art of pay traffic. We’re going to be welcoming Jared Bentley and Ethan Sigmon to talk about how they are absolutely crushing it selling fitness DVDs on Facebook with Facebook video ads. We’re going to get into all aspects of their campaigns including the one tweak that they made to their Facebook ads that literally allowed them to make a million dollars in revenue. And also they’re going to share the story of how they got their account shut down and how they got it back.
[00:08:56] Everything that all the details there what they went through with that. That is all coming up next week my friend. So until then keep testing your paid traffic to find out what works for you and your business. And then more of what’s working and less perfectionism. And I’ll see you in the next episode.
